A glorious day greeted the National Gravel and Scottish Championship crews in the borders. Overall honours looked very much like one from the top and so it proved to be, as they locked out the podium positions. It was Marcus Dodd & Andrew Bargery who took their ageing Accent WRC to victory over the Focus WRC pairing of Steve Perez and Paul Bird, (co-driven by Paul Spooner and Ian Windress respectively). Perez took the lead on the Friday night stages, but both Dodd and Bird continually gained ground on the Saturday, with Dodd taking victory by just under 6 seconds from Perez with Bird a further 18 seconds back in third.
Elsewhere it was Daniel Barry & Martin Brady who took group N and Evo Challenge honours, ahead of Simon Hughes & Craig Parry. In the Scottish championship it was Willis Bonniewell & Neil Ewing who took top points as they were running in the National A event whilst the National B event was won by Jimmy Girvan & Mike Ramsay from David Bogie & Kevin Rae. In the 2WD battle it was Adrian Hetherington & Gary Nolan who beat Steve Bannister & Louise Sutherland by just under 10 seconds. Congratulations to Carl & Robin Tuer also who won the 1600cc and under section of the event in their MG ZR Super 1600.
Last but not least our compilation video from a most excellent event. Keep it going to the end to hear the unadulterated sound of Andy Horne’s Metro 6R4 –
