NMVR-D Suzuki’s Carl Nunn took the Red Bull Pro National MX1 Championship title at the weekend, after the Suzuki RM-Z450 rider rode to a pair of solid results, lifting the championship trophy at the last round of the series at Wakes Colne in Essex.
Battling with championship rival James Noble in-front of the 5,000 strong crowd, Nunn simply rode with the title in mind, shadowing Noble in both motos to finish runner-up in each to become the 2009 champion.
Nunn: “I’ve enjoyed this series hugely. It’s not been easy, but we achieved what we set out to do – lift the trophy! The bike performed faultlessly and the team has worked really well together the whole season long. It’s been one of my most memorable seasons and I’d just like to thank everyone involved who has supported me.”
As well as taking the Red Bull Pro series, Nunn was also victorious in the Van Slam race too, giving him that championship and the prize – a new Van.
For team-mate Mattis Karro, his day would end prematurely after a rock in the face forced him out of both races, requiring no-less than thirteen stitches to his lip. Karro will now sit out of the final MMX round too, before returning to the last round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship at Landrake.
Joining the team for a guest appearance was Danish rider Nicoli Larsen, who rode to a impressive fifth and fourth place finishes in the two races, ending the day fourth overall in MX2.
Team manager, Mark Chamberlain: “Firstly, a big congratulations must go to Carl. He’s ridden very well all season and to win the Red Bull Pro series and the Van Slam in the same day is a great result. Mattis on the other hand had a bad day and we feel it best for him to miss the final MMX round. Of course, a mention must go to Nicoli who impressed us all with his pace on an unfamiliar track.”
Both team riders now begin their preparation for the Motocross of Nations next month.
