Evans digs in to claim valuable points on Pirelli Rally

After two visits to the podium in the opening two rounds of the 2011 Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, Welshman Elfyn Evans had to settle for a fourth place finish when round three of the series visited Carlisle for the Pirelli International Rally this weekend.

After missing out 2010 we were back up in Kielder for the 2011 Pirelli Rally where David Bogie & Kevin Rae (Evo IX) made it 2 wins out of 3 in the BRC. Bulldog winners Elfyn Evans & Andrew Edwards were in close attendance until the end of stage 5 but then they had a character building drive to get to the finish. In the end it was the Fabia S2000′s which completed the podium with Robert Barrable & Damien Connolly a fine second, just over a minute back, with Jonny Greer & Dai Roberts a minute and a half further back in 3rd. In the 2WD section a late check in cost the Clio R3 pairing of Mark Donnelly & Barry McNulty dear. They would have won the category comfortably but instead were fourth. Martin McCormack & David Moynihan (DS3 R3) took the win by almost 20 seconds from the Finnish pairing of Jukka Korhonen & Marko Salminen (Fiesta R2). Craig Breen & Gareth Roberts (Fiesta R2) completed the podium a further 10 seconds back.

McNish & Audi to give race debut of R18 TDi in Spa 1,000km

Allan McNish gives the new Audi R18 TDI an important race début when the Scotsman competes in the second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Spa in Belgium of Saturday (7 May).

McNish lines-up with regular co-drivers Tom Kristensen (Denmark) and Dindo Capello (Italy) in the new diesel-engined R18 Coupé for the 1,000km race around the stunning 4.35-mile Spa-Francorchamps track.

MINI WRC Team – Rally Italy, Sardinia – Preview

Sardinia, an island steeped in history, is where the MINI WRC Team will make its historic debut in the FIA World Rally Championship next week. With its two MINI John Cooper Works WRCs driven by Kris Meeke (GB) and Dani Sordo (ES) the team will start the Rally Italy, Sardinia on Friday (6th May) and begin a new era for this iconic brand.

The MINI Countryman was the car chosen for this exciting project and its development has been in the hands of Prodrive, the Banbury, UK based company that has a wealth of experience in the world of rallying, in close cooperation with MINI. The new programme for the brand was announced last July and since then the team has covered thousands of kilometres of testing. Meeke from Northern Ireland will be co-driven by Paul Nagle from Southern Ireland in car number 52, while sitting beside Sordo will be fellow Spaniard, Carlos del Barrio, in car number 37.

Honda Racing team: BTCC race preview report

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship star Matt Neal says he will be facing one of his biggest challenges of the season when the Honda Racing Team takes part in the third round of the series at Thruxton this weekend.

The Civic driver is second in the standings heading into rounds seven, eight and nine of the 2011 campaign at the 2.3-mile Hampshire track but the former double champion says this weekend will be tough. Rulemakers have cut the level of boost that turbocharged cars are permitted to use, and Neal says this will affect his Civic.
