Competitors entering the 2012 edition of Tour Britannia before 19 December 2011 will qualify for a £400 discount on the normal entry fee for Britain’s only classic race and rally tour.
The eighth running of this unique event will be based in Yorkshire and will run from 7-9 June, offering crews in both the competition and regularity events three full days of action taking in some old favourite locations as well as several new venues. Tour Britannia will be based at the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, which will host documentation and scrutineering during Wednesday 6 June before another first for the event, a special prologue stage in the grounds of the hotel on Wednesday evening.
The Tour Britannia ‘early bird’ entry fees are valid until 19 December 2011, with the regularity event at £2,350 and the competition event at £3,400. After 19 December, the normal entry fees apply of £2,750 and £3,800 respectively. This amount is taken as a £995 deposit with the balance due before entries close in May 2012.
Outline route details for the event have been unveiled and Thursday 7 June will feature a clockwise loop through Yorkshire starting with an early stage in the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. After that the route heads north to Croft for the first race and Tour Britannia’s first visit to this superb and challenging circuit. After a glorious road section across the North Yorkshire Moors, crews tackle the amazing Oliver’s Mount circuit on the outskirts of Scarborough, before returning to Harrogate to do the two-mile Great Yorkshire Showground stage in the reverse direction.
Another full day on Friday 8 June starts at the Harewood Hillclimb, with the special stage going down rather than up. Then the route moves into Lincolnshire for a race at the wonderful Cadwell Park circuit before a visit to the new track at Blyton Park. The afternoon run back to Harrogate includes another visit to Harewood.
On Saturday 9 June, the tour heads into the Midlands, taking in at least four stages on the way to the final race circuit before the event wraps up with an evening prize-giving. The organisers are planning to add more venues to ensure a race and at least four special stages each day.
More details about Tour Britannia can be found at the event website: www.tourbritannia.com and entry forms can be downloaded from the site. The entry form is also attached to this press release.
