Kick Energy scored a double podium during the second round of the Kenyan National Autocross Championship when Zane Young finished second in the Quad category and Geoff Mayes finished third in the rally car class at last weekends meeting at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi.
17 year old Zane powered his 660cc Yamaha Raptor to his second consecutive second position in two weeks when he around the Jamhuri track last Sunday. As at the previous round Zane’s times improved consistently throughout the four heats and he was overjoyed to end the day ahead of a number of faster attacker buggies. The autocross is really improving my skill as a rider but we need to make a few small changes to the quad bike to find a bit more acceleration as it is currently set up for long distance enduro events… but this is still a lot of fun!
Geoff Mayes was once again in a Safaricom Subaru Impreza rally car, kindly lent by Ben Muchemi. After suffering a broken windscreen in practice and then a damaged driveshaft during one of his heats Geoff was still happy to finish third in class. Once again I owe a massive thanks to Ben Muchemi for lending me one of his cars… hopefully mine will be running properly by the next meeting! We had a good battle today and the track was fantastic.
