HRH The Duke of Edinburgh made a beeline for Sara Williams and her Klarius sponsored Subaru rally car at the popular Diamonds in the Park event at Glanusk Estate. Both the Queen and the Duke attended the celebrations as part of the Queen’s Jubilee year.
The Duke stopped his car to quiz Sara and team boss Jon Williams about the car and her recent success competing in the UK BTRDA series, “The Duke was keen to know how we were getting on in the championship and wanted to know the significance of the red dragon on the car, we told him it was the QH logo but that we had adopted it also because it’s such a powerful symbol of Wales too,” commented Sara.
“It was a little nerve wracking but he had a joke with us about me being faster than a lot of the other drivers and seemed pleased that we had made the effort to attend the event and show the car off – the enthusiasm of the public in general for the team and the sport was a real boost and made the day well worth attending”.
The Powys Diamond Jubilee Celebrations were named ‘Diamonds in the Park’ and held at Glanusk Park. The historic event was held for the people of Powys to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and which Her Majesty the Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visited during their two day tour of Wales.
The celebrations were designed to capture the regional character of the County with an imaginative event that included a wide variety of activities and displays including all the Emergency Services, Armed Forces, Powys County Council, tourism, forestry, agriculture, crafts, sports (including rallying), country pursuits and education.
Sara will be back competing again in the Klarius Group backed Impreza in the SJR Plains Rally, based in and around Welshpool, on the 19th May. Another home event which will hopefully see a good result for the car as reliability has also been extremely good so far this season thanks to an overhaul during the winter and a host of replacement parts from the Klarius Group product portfolio.
