UWS students conquer the challenge…

At 9am on Thursday 10th of January, 9 students from the University of the West of Scotland strode onto the Go Motorsport stand at the 2013 Autosport Show, NEC Birmingham. Their Challenge – to convert a 1999 Nissan Micra 1000cc into a ready to go Junior 1000 rally car by 6pm on Sunday night.  The project was the brainchild of Alison Clark from Lockerbie – the MSA Go Motorsport Regional Development Officer for Scotland – with assistance from David Barlow. David is the Co-ordinator of the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge – a car rally Championship for 14 to 17 year olds which is entering its second year in Scotland.

BTCC champion, Gordon Shedden, helps launch ‘Year of the Volunteer’ at Autosport International

The Motor Sports Association, the governing body of UK motor sport, launched its ‘Year of the Volunteer’ at the Autosport International show (10-13 January).

Introducing the initiative on the event’s high profile Central Stage, the MSA’s Chief Executive Colin Hilton was joined by reigning Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden and Richard Egger, Go Motorsport’s Regional Development Officer in the East Midlands.

R.A.C boom time at Autosport International

It was boom time for both the Roger Albert Clark Rally and the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C Rally Championship during Autosport International at the Birmingham NEC (10-13 January).

As the show entered its final couple of hours, rally and championship manager Colin Heppenstall reflected on four days of hectic activity with unrivalled levels of competitor and spectator interest in both the rally and the championship.

Strong International appeal for new era Formula Ford

Young race drivers from across the globe are eyeing this season’s new-look Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.

 

Competitors from 10 countries have registered firm interest with series organisers.  With 10 weeks until the opening round, officials are delighted with the response to the major changes introduced to the category for 2013.

Next-generation Hydraflow fluid connector range exhibited for the first time in the UK at Autosport International

Suzuki at the 2013 Autosport International Show

Suzuki GB PLC is pleased to announce its presence at this year’s Autosport International show at the NEC in Birmingham. Suzuki will be exhibiting several examples of its very popular Swift model including an early opportunity to view two Special Edition models due for introduction in the UK in the near future; these will be badged SZ-L for the 1.2-litre model and SZ-R for the 1.6-litre Sport. From the two wheel side of the company, the latest version of the GSX-R600 will also be on display equipped with advanced technology derived from MotoGP.

MSA Go Motorsport in action in Autosport International

The Motor Sports Association, governing body of UK motor sport, is launching its ‘Year of the Volunteer’ at this week’s Autosport International show (NEC, Birmingham from 10-13 January 2013) as well as giving show-goers an exciting opportunity to participate in a live motor sport event.

Five rally cars on show at Autosport International

Five cars representing both the Roger Albert Clark Rally and the West Wales Rally Spares RAC Rally Championship will be on show at Autosport International at the Birmingham NEC (10-13 January).

Pride of place will go to the Ford Escort Mk2 that Marty McCormack and Phil Clarke took to a famous victory on the ninth Roger Albert Clark Rally. Joining the Escort on show will be the Datsun 240Z of Robert Close, the Ford Escort Mk2 of Dave Hemingway and the Vauxhall Nova of Nigel Barrett. On an adjoining stand will be the Alfa Romeo Sprint GT of John Everard.
