Kumho Ypres14One of several David and Goliath results achieved by Kumho-shod rally and race cars in recent weeks was Dutch driver Herman Kobus’ 4th place on the Geko Ypres Rally, Belgium (June 19-21) – the 50th running of this ever-popular event. His privately-entered Ford Fiesta S2000 was only beaten by a pair of Works Skodas and an R5 Fiesta, all of which had professional drivers at the helm, and he missed out on a podium by a scant 18 seconds. Kumho Norway14Frank Tore Larsen now leads the Norwegian Rally Championship by 28 points, following outright victory in his Kumho-shod Ford Fiesta R5 on the recent Rally Sorland – the first gravel event of the 2014 series.

Larsen, who has upgraded from an R2 Fiesta to the considerably more powerful (almost 300bhp) four-wheel drive M-Sport R5 model for this season, was ecstatic with the result. Read More »

Kumho Red Kite14Richard Hill and Pat Cooper took their newly-built MKII Ford Escort to an historic win in last weekend’s Red Kite Historic Stages event – the opening round of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship.

The 60-strong field enjoyed stages in the Calo and Crychan complexes and, though conditions were surprisingly good considering the ongoing wet weather, the return of heavy rain as the leading cars set about the deciding 15-mile long test certainly upped the ante. Read More »

Jardine GB13bTwo months ago, Skeleton gold medallist Amy Williams MBE had never competed in motorsport. Now she’s a class-winning co-driver on one of the world’s toughest rallies, having assisted Sky Sports analyst Tony Jardine to his best ever result on Wales Rally GB (November 14-17) – the pair’s Kumho-shod ProSpeed Mitsubishi Evo was placed 1st in Class 3 and 26th overall.

The team had a tough start to the event, with Williams missing the second day of the official recce due to illness and various niggling problems on the first day of competition. The duo began to gel on the second one, however, which they finished lying 2nd in class and a fighting 27th overall. Read More »
