raceretro13 (293)The 10th International Historic Motorsport Show, aka Race Retro, was once again held at the NAC Stoneleigh. We did our usual mix of the show on the Friday, including the auction and the subject of our adoration the Valvoline Lola T70 MkIIIB, before catching the live action over the weekend. The show this year celebrated Lotus and Renault Alpine, who were both well represented on the feature stands in halls 1 & 2. Tour Britannia 2013 announceDetails about the route for the 2013 Tour Britannia (10/11 May) will be unveiled at Race Retro, the International Historic Motorsport Show, at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry (22-24 February).

Using the annual kick-off event for the historic season as an informal launch, event director Alec Poole will be showing confirmed and prospective competitors details of what lies ahead when the ninth edition of Britain’s only classic race and rally tour runs in the spring. Read More »

Whistling Billy 4 by Syd WallYou don’t get much more historic in motorsport than ‘Whistling Billy’, the 1905 steam powered racing car that has undergone a full restoration and rebuild, and will make its Race Retro debut at Stoneleigh Park from 22-24 February.

Originally built by the White company, this steam works sprint car was made for the popular new motor racing on the dirt trotting horse tracks throughout North America. It was called Billy but was soon renamed Whistling Billy because of the howl that it made from its burners going down the straights. Read More »

The legendary face and voice of Grand Prix Motor Racing Murray Walker will be in attendance for two days in 2013 to help celebrate the events 10th anniversary.

Event Director Tom Siddall says “It’s a great honour to have Murray joining us for our celebrations alongside other motorsport guests. I’m sure his popularity will help boost the attendance in this special celebration”.

In 2013 Race Retro will honour the motorsport legacy of racing’s Team Lotus and the rallying success of Alpine as its chosen marques. Read More »

RaceRetro, the international historic motorsport show, is celebrating its tenthanniversary with a true motorsport legend when it returns to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th February2013. The voice of Formula One, commentator and journalist Murray Walker OBE will make his Race Retro debut on the Saturday and Sunday.

Murray, who was born in the West Midlands, celebrates 65 years in motorsport in 2013, after making his first broadcast at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in 1948. For fifty years, Murray commentated on Formula One with broadcasts being circulated all over the world. Read More »

Back to Stoneleigh for another packed weekend for what was the 9th International Historic Motorsport Show, aka RAC Retro. This year the featured marques were Porsche and Honda and we were especially pleased to see some fantastic endurance racing Porsche’s on display. Along with this was the usual live rally stage and a mixture of rally drivers from the famous to the keen enthusiasts, which has become a key feature of the show. Read More »

More details about the route for Tour Britannia (7-9 June) will be unveiled at Race Retro, the International Historic Motorsport Show, at Stoneleigh (24-26 February).

Classic venues like the Croft and Cadwell Park race circuits are already confirmed along with the famous Harewood Hillclimb and the awesome Oliver’s Mount motorcycle course at Scarborough. More venues for both races and asphalt special stages will be revealed at Race Retro, where Tour Britannia will have its regular position in the main ‘speed street’, Hall 2 stand 36. Read More »

Race Retro’s Porsche celebrations are continuing to grow, with a stunning line-up of rare and legendary cars on display and in action, when it returns to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 February.

As well as the display of the first prototype chassis of the Rothmans Group C Porsche 956, raced by Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell, there will also be Sir Stirling Moss’ Porsche RS61 Spyder, one of only 14 built, bought for $1.7 million at the Amelia Island Auction in Florida to mark Sir Stirling’s 30th wedding anniversary. Jamiroquai front man and self-confessed petrolhead Jay Kay is bringing his Porsche 914-6 to this year’s Race Retro for a reunion with one of its original drivers, rally legend Bjorn Waldegard. Bjorn will be seeing if the car stands the test of time on the high octane Live Rally Stage on Saturday 25th and Sunday 25th February, before Jay Kay himself gets behind the wheel. Read More »

Race Retro has put together an amazing line up of rare racing and rally cars for you to drool over this year including, for our 30th anniversary celebrations of Porsche, two unbelievable 956’s guaranteed to leave you open mouthed.

On static display will be the Group C Porsche 956, the 001 first prototype chassis that was raced in Rothmans livery by Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell. But cars weren’t made to be static and that’s why we’ve got not one but two Group B Porsche 911 SCRS 1984 280bhp three litre flat six rally cars in action on Saturday and Sunday on the Live Rally Stage.
