Peter van Merksteijn jr. and co-driver Erwin Mombaerts will close the 2011 World Rally Championship season this week during the WRC Wales Rally GB. The Van Merksteijn Motorsport driver will appear in his Citroën DS3 WRC for the first time in a World Rally Car at the start of this tough and difficult event through the Welsh forests.
In the WRC Rally Catalunya, Peter van Merksteijn jr. and co-driver Erwin Mombaerts finished in 17th position. In this difficult rally, the Dutch driver scored 4 championship points in his Citroën DS3 WRC for Van Merksteijn Motorsport in the classification for WRC team in the World Rally Championship.
Peter van Merksteijn jr. and Erwin Mombaerts are looking with mixed feelings back on the second day of the WRC Rally Catalunya. With the Van Merksteijn Motorsport Citroën DS3 WRC they set a fantastic quick time on the longest stage of the 2011 season in the World Rally Championship but a puncture prevented them from repeating this performance later in the day.
Peter van Merksteijn jr. will fight during the coming weekend with his Citroën DS3 WRC for a place in the top ten in the RACC Rally Catalunya. Together with co-driver Erwin Mombaerts, the Van Merksteijn Motorsport driver will set off from the holiday resort of Salou to take on the full entry list with 21 World Rally Cars which will battle for the championship points.
During the 30th edition of the Hellendoorn Rally, Van Merksteijn Motorsport delivered a double stroke by finishing with both cars on the podium. Peter van Merksteijn jr. took victory in the event with the Citroën C4 WRC and Bas van Kamperdijk finished surprisingly second in group N with the Mitsubishi Evo IX.
