Will Nicholls & Nick Broom broke the run of wins for Andy Burton last year and headed the field this year. They pretty much dominated the event going fastest on 6 of the 9 stages run, including the first 5, in their Impreza WRC. It was another front row lock out for VX Racing in qualifying for the second round of the 2009 season of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship. Following a 1-2 qualifying at the first event of the season two weeks ago at Brands Hatch circuit, with Matt Neal on pole, it was current champion, Giovanardi who needed only one flying lap to take the top spot today, despite missing the second practice session after clashing with a rival racer.

Early morning practice, with dry conditions, gave the VX Racing team its first taste of the Thruxton circuit. All three drivers waited until the session was underway before taking to the track, but after only a few minutes the trio quickly resumed their customary front of pack positions. At the end of the forty minutes session Giovanardi had shown his superiority with the fastest time of the session.
