somerset-09-1How many times, in recent history, has the number 1 car on the Somerset Stages Rally dominated the event? Will Nicholls & Nick Broom broke the run of wins for Andy Burton last year and headed the field this year. They pretty much dominated the event going fastest on 6 of the 9 stages run, including the first 5, in their Impreza WRC. The victory margin over the Focus WRC of Hugh Hunter & Andy Marchbank being 35 seconds. Back in third was Burton, co-driven by Shelley Rogerson, a further 34 seconds back in the Peugeot Cosworth.

Will Onions & Tim Hobbs took their Escort MkII to 14th overall and were the first 2WD crew home, with local Ace Andy Burnell & Rob Smith 2nd 2WD crew in their Skoda Felicia. Third in the Silver Star was the Manta of championship leaders Jon Ballinger & Alistair Douglas. Down in the 140o’s Malcolm Hague and Dave Read held a fifteen second advantage over local crew Nick Priddy and Andy Ballantyne. But a broken half shaft on their Escort MkII, towards the end of the final stage, saw victory go to the Corsa of Priddy. The Satria of Darren Pinchin & Karen Watts were a close 2nd with 1400 championship leaders Grahm Middleton & Ella Flynn, a slightly distant third in their Ignis.

And another compilation video to finish, (we just had to extend the Burton clips for the sound – we’ve missed it!) –
