_CAA4186 kopieBernhard Ten Brinke made his debut in the Van Merksteijn Motorsport Ford Focus WRC 06 during the Sezoensrally which was run last weekend around the Belgian Bocholt. In his first rally with the WRC car he managed a very respectable 7th place overall in a strong international field of competitors. With 12 WRC cars at the start and almost a third of the distance being gravel, it was a difficult rally in which he took part with co-driver Hans van Goor.

Bernhard Ten Brinke, Director of Bribus Keukens inHolland,  took prior to the second rally for the Dutch Championship part in two international rallies among which the well known South Swedish Rally where he finished in 6th position to gain as much experience as possible. Thanks to the extra mileage he was able to hold his own in the strong entry list with 12 WRC cars.

In his first rally in a WRC car and his fourth rally ever, Ten Brinke started the event cautiously with the sole purpose of finishing the rally. “At this moment I cannot but also will not match the pace of Erik Wevers and Peter van Merksteijn jnr. I still have to get to know the car and rallying is something completely different than circuit racing what I used to do in the Mégane Trophy” commented Bernhard on his goal for the event.

Halfway through the rally Bernhard was in 9th position behind René Kuipers with the Subaru S14 and in front of paul Lietaer in the older spec Subaru WRC. During the second half of the rally Ten Brinke continued his good drive and showed that he in combination with the Ford Focus WRC can make big progress during the remainder of this season.

On Special Stage 11 we started behind René Kuipers and stopped immediately when we arrived at the scene of his severe accident. It was quite a scare when you are confronted with the dangers of the sport. The visibility at that point was zero as all the dust stayed above the road due to the lack of wind. After the emergency services had arrived we continued our way but with just 1 short stage remaining we drove carefully to the finish” said Bernhard Ten Brinke.

Finishing in 7th place in this international rally is a very good result by Ten Brinke in the Focus WRC with Bribus Keukens backing. “Bernhard has to make as many kilometers as possible. We are still looking for a few extra challenging rallies to combine with the Dutch Championship for Bernhard. He is very eager to learn and picks up quickly on instructions. He will become a big asset in the Dutch rallysport” according to team manager Gerard Grouve
