Britcar 09 (9)Another trip to Silverstone in the space of a month, what is going on? This time we were taking in the Britcar action and whilst the format had been changed from a 24 hour race to just 6 hours, the action was just as intense and exhilarating to watch. At the start it was all about the trio of Mosler MT900R’s but as they were thirstier on the fuel than the smaller engine capacity cars, it would prove to be an intriguing battle. With the McInerney Mosler retiring early on whilst leading the race, the battle was between the Mosler’s of Beaumont/Gormley/Clucas and White/Lockie. As the race progressed the Porsche 911 RSR of Sumpter/Slater came into the equation and moved ahead following less pit stops.

With an hour to go it was still a three way fight but controversially the Mosler of White/Lockie got a 30 second stop & go penalty, promoting the Mosler of Beaumont/Gormley/Clucas into second place. With the top 3 running just 40 seconds apart in the closing stages, this was going to be a race to the flag. Then sensationally in the final 10 minutes it was announced that the Porsche of Sumpter/Slater would be subject to a 2 lap penalty for a pitlane infringement, dropping the crew back to third place. So it was a last gasp victory for the Mosler of Beaumont/Gormley/Clucas from White/Lockie. In the other classes the GT class 2 was won by the Ferrari F430 GT3 of Cameron/Edmonds and class 3 went to the Ginetta G50 GT4 of Wilkins/Scott. In the production classes class 1 went to the BMW M3 E46 of Gent/Clark, class to 2 was won by the BMW 320i E46 of Lawson/Wilds/Wilds and the smallest category, class 3, went to the Honda Civic of Adams/Green/Fagg/Byford.
