Double ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin champion Paul Rivett says he can’t wait for rounds nine and 10 of the series at Croft circuit where the 31-year-old will make his come back to the one-make championship.

Paul, from Banstead in Surrey, will return to the popular saloon-car series at the North Yorkshire track – where he still holds the lap record – on 19th/20th June after an absence of more than one and a half years. The 2002 and 2004 champion will race with Stancombe Vehicle Engineering in the Blue Square Data backed car, replacing series regular Matthew Munson.

“I’m really looking forward to be racing again and to be working with Colin Stancombe who I haven’t raced with since 2001,” says Paul who works full-time as a glazier. “It’s been a long time since I was last in a Clio and although the car has changed I’m hoping it will be like riding a bike!”

Rounds nine and 10 are two of six races Paul will contest this year together with the race meetings at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, as part of World Series by Renault, and Brands Hatch Indy circuit. “Of the six rounds my goal is to win three of them and at least be on the podium for the rest – although ideally I’d like to win them all! The competition this year though is as high as ever so I know it won’t be easy.”

Indeed, Paul will face stiff competition from the likes of Total Control Racing’s Sam Tordoff (Leeds), racing on his home circuit, and championship leader Dave Newsham (Inverness) who has already notched up six wins so far this year in his Team Pyro run car. Commenting on Paul’s return Newsham said: “I’m really looking forward to be racing alongside Paul and it should make for an interesting weekend. I’ve only ever competed against him once before in 2008 so I’m certainly up for the challenge.”

Rounds nine and 10 of the ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin take place at North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit on 19th/20th June.
