Another enjoyable days rallying down South for the Tempest Rally. Once again we moved around taking in 3 different stages catching the finale of the 4WD rally last. Jason Pritchard & David Roberts (Impreza) shot out of the blocks and took an early lead against the WRC cars, in their group N car. A 15 second lead at 1st service became just 2 seconds at 2nd service and lo and behold John Lloyd & Adrian Cavenagh (Focus WRC) caught up on SS8 and then moved ahaed over the final two stages to win by 8 seconds. JLT team mates Andrew Barnes & Guy Simmons (Focus WRC) completed the podium 14 seconds behind Pritchard.

The 2WD event saw an increase in entries on 2009 but the rally was dominated by one crew, Leigh & Chris Armstrong (Escort MkII). It didn’t start out this way though as Ian Roberton & Kenny Roberts set fastest times on the 1st and 4th stages, in their Nissan 240RS.  Armstrong led but only by 4 seconds after setting fastest times on SS2 & SS3. But Longmoor saw the demise of Roberton as he rolled on the 2nd run leaving Armstrong in an unassailable lead, eventually winning by the best part of two minutes. It was tight for 2nd place though with Simon Smith & Sylvia Earle (Escort MkII) just 4 seconds ahead of Shawn Rayner & Declan Dear (Escort MkII). Rayner lost 40 seconds or so on stage 2 and was charging back hard through the remaining 8 stages, but the gap proved too large to make up (or they could have done with another stage).

Video eventually – 2012?!
