The Swift Group supported Mlllers Oils BTRDA 1400 Rally Champion of 2010, Matt Edwards, has secured a huge pre-season boost by being selected onto the Millers Oils ‘Rising Stars’ Scholarship scheme for 2011. The programme will see Edwards benefit from the supply of Millers Oils products throughout the year, aswell as benefitting from extensive media exposure and technical advice.

Edwards was selected from a large number of applicants from all divisions of UK Motorsport whose season kicks off this weekend, (March 6th) as he leads 125 crews away from Newtown on the Mid-Wales Stages, an event on which he took his maiden rally win in 2010. Once again Matt will be co-driven by Sam Collis from Chesterfield in a Geoff Jones Motorsport Subaru Impreza for this event prior to preparing for his BRC Challenge campaign.

The support generated has been the product of months of hard work for the M.E.Rallysport team, which culminated in acquiring the ex-Callum Black MG ZR similar to that which he drove to success in 2010;

“We have been working flat out since last June towards our 2011 plans and had hoped to be doing the full British Championship this year; however, with the support we have generated towards doing the BRC Challenge now, I think we are in a far better position for 2012, as we have time to regain experience of the events prior to the British Championship going ‘two wheel drive’ only next year. Im also planning to convert the MG to left hand drive for the year to gain some more experience of that, and to advertise the fact im still trying to push my career forwards, as we would hope to dovetail our BRCC efforts with a couple of one-off events that we feel would increase experience in certain areas.”

Peter Smith of The Swift Group also commented on Matts 2011 plans;
“Matt has worked very hard since our association began after the Plains rally last year to provide the best exposure for us that his means allow which we appreciate. He’s also managed to link up with Smart-Tow Trailers for 2011 which is a company we had dealt with before, but now we have a good business releationship with our complementary products so its proof Matts efforts are well directed and paying off for all his associates, so we are pleased to be continuing our support into 2011”
