Another thrilling climax to a BTRDA rally with the overall victory coming down to a stall at the start of the final stage. Andrew Burton & Robin Kellard (Peugeot Cosworth) had been leading all event until the final stage where they clipped a bank and fell back to 2nd place, just 4 seconds behind Hugh Hunter & Andy Marchbank (Focus WRC). With one stage of less than two miles to go it was Hunter who stalled at startline and Burton knew victory could be his with a clean run. He duly took 9 seconds out of Hunter to win by 5 seconds. Charlie Payne & Paul Spooner (Focus WRC) completed the podium places with a good solid run, just over 30 seconds back.

In the Silver Star field the Historics were mixed in but in the end it was the non period spec cars that battled it out for top honours. Will Onions & Dave Williams took their 2.5l Escort MkII to victory by 5 seconds from the smaller engined Escort MkII of Mad Mick Jones & Isak Gudjonsson. Back in third, over a minute further back was the top Historic crew of Gareth Lloyd & Gareth Roberts (Escort MkII). Stuart Clarke & Andy Ballantyne (Escort MkII) were second home in the Historics with Paul Griffiths & Sam Collis third in their Escort MkII, happy to chalk up a finish. Completing the Silver Star podium and 1st FWD crew home, (barring the 1400’s), were Osian Pryce & Iestyn Williams (Fiesta R2).

In the 1400’s the top two went off on a battle of their own and it was Justin Lawson & Paul Hargreaves (Nova) who came out on top and prevented Darren Pinchin & Karen Watts (Satria) from making it 4 top points scores in a row. The margin of victory was only 13 seconds but still leaves Pinchin in a commanding position in the championship. Third were Clive Anstey & Tim Currie in their Corsa.
