Round 6 of the BTRDA championship brought the crews to Builth Wells for the Quinton Stages. Andy Burton & Robin Kellard (Peugeot Cosworth) were highly fancied to clinch the title and the event, but as it turned out they were off the ultimate pace all day finishing 3rd overall. Instead Charlie Payne & Craig Thorley (Focus WRC) slugged it out with Roger Chilman & Andrew Sankey (Impreza WRC). The pair were joint fastest on stage 1 before Chilman took the 2nd stage but Payne was then fastest or joint fastest on the next 6 stages to win by 8 seconds. Chilman was clear in 2nd and as previously mentioned Burton was 3rd, which was enough to become the 2011 BTRDA Gold Star champion in the final year for his iconic car.

In the 2WD runners there was no real surprise that Julian Reynolds & Ian Oakey dominated in their Escort MkII, in the end winning by 81 seconds. David Young & Simon Buckles (Escort MkII) were good value for 2nd place with Allan McDowall & Gavin Heseltine (Kaddett) a fine 3rd in what is proving to be a strong year. In the Historics Terry Brown & Tomos Whittle (Escort MkII) showed their class on stages they know so well to win by over a minute. Peter Smith & Russ Langthorne (Escort MkI) were 2nd with Warren Philliskirk & Matthew Whattam (Escort MkII) just two seconds behind in third.

In the 1400’s Darren Pinchin & Karen Watts (Satria) could sew up the title but bad luck struck as they lost minutes on the 2nd run through Halfway but they recovered to finish 5th, which was enough to clinch the title. Clive Anstey & Ian Harden (Corsa) could have denied Pinchin & Watts the title but 2 minutes of road penalties saw what would have been a win trn into 4th place. So it was Marcel Freling & Karen Robinson (MG ZR) who won by 10 seconds from Kieran Darrington & Pamela Hilton (Corsa). Martin Shaw & Ian Prout (Escort MkII) completed the podium.
