Sara Williams, the young Welsh rally driver that has been tipped for big things, is on course to complete her most successful year yet in the sport. With just two rallies left in her first season with the Klarius Group as sponsors she has a clear opportunity to win a number of awards and is currently placed 3rd overall in the Welsh Clubman’s Series, a strong position from which to claim overall honours.

The two rallies left to compete this season are: the championship decider Cambrian rally on 8th October in North Wales, and Wales Rally GB National on the 10th-13th November 2011 in Builth Wells http://www.walesrallygb.com. The latter is not a championship decider for Sara but is a prestigious event on the national rally calendar none the less.

In the BTRDA Rally Championship Sara is currently in 9th position overall, and in the MSA Welsh National Championships she is 7th overall, 4th in class and joint leader in the under 25’s in the Welsh Clubman category. She is also tipped to win leading female driver in most of the championships she has entered.

A year ago Sara Williams was preparing to take part in the biggest rally of her career so far, the Wales Rally GB National Rally. While it was her fourth season driving a rally car competitively, it was the first year that she had been competing on gravel and in a Group N Category Subaru Impreza – one of the legendary cars in rallying. In the 2010 race she managed an impressive fourth overall, placing her high on the sport’s ‘ones-to-watch’ list.

Her success during the 2010 season caught the attention of the Klarius Group, Europe’s largest manufacturer and distributor of aftermarket automotive components, which then led to a sponsorship deal for the 2011 season. The company’s support has allowed her to compete in a number of events throughout the season that have been part of the BTRDA Rally Championship and the MSA Welsh National Championships; the R&D department has also worked closely with her mechanics to help keep the car running reliably using a variety of parts from the Klarius Group portfolio. For this event Klarius has developed a new exhaust system which Sara will be testing and developing with Doug Bentley, Technical Centre Manager at Klarius.

In a sport littered with aggressive (and often slower) drivers, Sara has become recognised for an extremely smooth and efficient driving style that is in-tune with the conditions. A combination of level headed driving and reliability from the Klarius sponsored car means that she is currently on track for a number of awards this season.

Sara comments: “This has definitely been my best season yet. Ever since I started driving in a Honda Civic I have been addicted to the sport and since Klarius came on board I have had the opportunity to take my passion to a new level, becoming really competitive at the top end of the Welsh rallying scene. I’m only at the start of my career and hope to continue developing my skills and improving my race results. My aim for the next few years is to try and win outright at one of the national events and then move into international driving, hopefully in the IRC (International Rally Challenge).”
