The final results from the Mid Wales Stages will show a comfortable win for Nick Elliott & Dave Price in their Escort MkII but it had been a hard fought victory. In the morning wintry conditions reminded the crews that this was still only the first weekend of March. Elliott held only an eight second lead after stage 3 over Will Onions & Dave Williams (Escort MkII) but issues on stage 4 for Onions and shear pace on stage 5 gave Elliott the win. In the post Historics Julian Reynolds & Patrick Walsh (Escort MkI) had the perfect start in their new car. Their victory margin was 49 seconds and they would have been 5th overall. Then in the Historics it was a tighter affair as Paul Mankin & Desmond Bell (Lotus Cortina) won by 27 seconds.

So the top 3 in the Classics were Elliott from Onions with Tim Pearcey & Neil Shanks (Escort MkII) third, only 3 seconds behind Onions. In the post Historics Reynolds won from David Stokes & Guy Weaver (Escort MkI) with Ernie & Will Graham (Escort MkII) completing the podium. Then in category 1 Mankin won from Simon Wallis & Graham Wride (Lotus Cortina) with Rikki Proffitt & Phill Harrison the only non-Ford competitor in any of the top 3’s, in their Porsche 911.

There was also a modern event and following stage 1 retirement from the Malcolm Wilson Rally the day before Tom Cave & Craig Parry (Impreza) dominated the event winning by almost a minute and setting fastest stage times on all 4 tests. The battle for 2nd was superb and was only decided on the final stage when Sebastian Ling & Aled Rees (Evo IX) went 11 seconds faster than Matt Edwards & Sam Collis (Evo IX) to take 2nd place by just 3 seconds. Special mention must go to Joe Price & Chris Brooks (Escort MkII) who were spectacular on their way to fifth place and first 2WD crew.
