Penrith driver Paul Bird saw his 2012 REIS/Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship campaign get underway with a battling sixth place finish on today’s Tour of Epynt.

Driving the Fuchs Titan, Rapid Solicitors and Kick Energy-backed FBP Ford Focus WRC08, Bird was making his debut on the popular Llandovery based event which consisted of over 80 miles on the notorious military roads and knew from the start he faced a challenge. Read More »

A bumper entry turned out for the first round of the 2012 REIS Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship. Strangely the weather also played its part with unseasonably good conditions all day for the Tour of Epynt. Damian Cole & Dave Engwell (Focus WRC) led after the first loop of stages but from stage 3 onwards Melvyn Evans & Aled Davies switched their Impreza WRC onto the correct rubber and never looked back. Organisers of next weekend’s Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally reckon the opening forest stage – last used in the 1980’s – will act as a “great leveller” for the eighty-plus crews entered for the event, the second round of the 2012 MSA Scottish Rally Championship.

The 9-mile stage at Craik Forest, west of Hawick, has been brought into play to mark the 40th anniversary of the first running of the Border Counties in 1972. Read More »
