The 2012 MSA British Rally Championship continues to attract attention from the media in the UK and around the globe. With a two month break until the penultimate round in Northern Ireland, it seems appropriate to take stock of the coverage enjoyed by what is still widely recognised as the best national rally championship in the world.

The global reach of the Championship is growing, highlighted on the second round of the series this season, when drivers from eleven nations took part. Website analytics show an increase in interest from abroad, as well as at home, with worldwide TV syndication also increasing this year thanks to the vital role played by Greenlight TV. The introduction of the new Smartphone App, website radio and live news have all played their part in broadening the appeal of the BRC.

These statistics are by no means comprehensive, as each of the six events and many of the competitors employ their own media teams for local and regional publicity. An appearance by a driver or co-driver in the local newspaper can increase the reach of championship-related coverage enormously and outline statistics for these are included in the BRC’s end of season media reports.

These figures exclude additional events such as the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed (150,000 attendance) where five BRC drivers will take to the rally stage and the championship’s formal presence at the Trax Performance Car Show attended by over 25,000 motorsport fans which will be held at Silverstone.
