SONY DSCThe Rally of the Midlands saw the REIS/Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship approach the halfway point of the season and with Melvyn Evans absent due to his shoulder and prior commitments, it was a chance for the other title contenders to stake their claim to this years championship. Reigning double champion Damian Cole & James Morgan (Focus WRC) took the initiative but were pegged back by Steve Simpson & Patrick Walsh (Impreza WRC) over the opening night, with the pair tied for the lead overnight. Gary Le Coadou & Paul Hollingham (Corolla WRC) were 23 seconds back in third.

It was the first stage round Mira that saw major changes overall as Cole extended what was only a 1 second lead over Simpson to over a minutes lead after the first visit to Mira, for 4 stages. 3rd place was all change too as Washington James & Paul Williams (Darrian GTR) moved up into 3rd place, just under half a minute behind Simpson. Cole took advantage of Simpson’s maladies through Merevale to extend his lead further. The gap then stabilised to the end of the event and Cole took victory from Simpson with James 3 minutes behind Cole, completing the podium.
