Double Rally Raid Champion Nish Lakhani was back to his winning ways on the recent Masinga Dam based event when he powered his Landrover V8 monster to victory. After two days and over 180 kilometres of a variety of testing terrain, Nish and new co-driver Teeku Patel were overjoyed to take maximum points from the third round of the 2012 championship.

Day one featured a difficult 60km section around the shores of Masinga Dam and such was the close competition that Nish ended the day third amongst the cars, a mere five minutes adrift of the overnight leader. A concerted push on Sunday morning saw Nish post some rapid times and by the end of the event had moved into a lead of almost 15 minutes, claiming his first victory of the year. Nish; I’m over the moon about this victory. I’m also gutted for Simon Sharpe, who retired, as it’s always fun to race against him, but this win does help our championship aspirations. I must say a massive well done to Teeku, my co-driver, for doing a sterling effort on the notes and to the organizers for creating a challenging and well organized event!

The 2012 Rally Raid Championship consists of five rounds spread across the country and caters for cars, buggies, bikes and quads. Each event routinely attracts between 40 and 50 entries. Nish Lakhani now leads the car category after three rounds but only 8 points separate the top four competitors,
