MSA British Rally Championship Citroën driver Osian Pryce was honoured at the Goodwood Festival of Speed yesterday when the 19 year-old from near Machynlleth in Powys was voted one of just three “Drivers of the Day”.

Voted for by officials and marshals involved in running the Forest Rally Stage at the prestigious West Sussex event, he had wowed the crowds with top six stage times and was the fastest two wheel drive car on the twisty, technical and slippery stage. The Southern Car Club organising team described him in their citation as: “Young, quick, exciting – a very nice young man.

The achievement was even more satisfying as the team had struggled to start the car on arrival at the venue, eventually tracing the problem to a faulty sensor – for which they had no replacement. After a frantic search of the local dealers and offers from Citroën UK to cannibalise their own cars, a replacement was found on a car in a dealer’s showroom and delivered to Goodwood.

Osian and co-driver Iestyn Williams are invited to display their car in front of Goodwood House on Sunday evening, when they will be presented with winners’ medals, garlands & champagne by Lord March.

Other BRC drivers enjoying the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s Forest Rally Stage and managing to stay between the imposing banks and bales are Gethin Jones in his Fiesta ST,  Jussi Kumpumäki in a Fiesta R1, Garry Pearson in his Twingo R1 and Mark Donnelly who is using a similar Twingo to Pearson.

BRC front-runner Jarkko Nikara is also at the event, special thanks going to him and the Autosport Technology team who lent Pryce their Citroën DS3 until the faulty part on their own car had been replaced.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed continues today (Saturday 30th June) concluding tomorrow evening tomorrow. For more information visit
