The conclusion to a mad weekend saw us take in our first event in Ireland, with the ALMC Stages Rally. The event was dominated by Melvyn Evans & Aled Davies (Impreza WRC) who eventually won by almost a minute and a half but the rest of the podium was not decided until the end of the very last stage. Damien Cole & James Morgan (Focus WRC) were in the box seat but a broken fly by wire throttle saw them drop over a minute, slipping back to 4th overall. This allowed James Belton & Mark Glennerster (Imprzea WRC) to take 2nd place with Steve Simpson & Patrick Walsh (Impreza WRC) a fine 3rd overall.

However all was not quite what it seemed as the first two cars were excluded from the points for REIS Get Connected championship, following notice of issues surrounding the legality of the mud flaps. The MSA had ruled they were not as per their requirements so Evans and Belton were still 1-2 on the event as they did comply with Irish regulations, but they scored no REIS Get Connected championship points. So it was Simpson who scored top points but he was lucky to survive a huge moment on the penultimate stage, following a bad landing on a jump, flat in 6th gear.

Behind the top 4 was the top 2WD crew 22yr old Chris Armstrong & Tommy Clinton (Escort MkII) in 5th place overall. It was a superb drive and showed plenty of commitment and they headed the Escort MkII of David Armstrong & Damien Fleming by just over a minute. Special mention must go to the 2WD drive in 3rd place, 8th overall. Lloyd Hutchinson & Willie Fitzpatrick drove their highly modified Austin Mini with great style and were truly entertaining.

There were two other events as part of the rally. The Historics was won by Dick Mauger & Steve McNulty (Escort MkII) and the Juniors saw victory for Kevin McLaughlin & Kieran McGinley (Civic).
