Isle of Mull driver Craig Rutherford clinched the Scottish Junior Rally Championship thanks to a late turn of speed on Saturday’s Merrick Forest Stages rally. Craig overcame a slow start to take maximum junior points, sealing the under-23 title with one round to spare – and there could be more silverware to come before the season is out.

Saturday’s Wigtown-based Ian Broll Merrick Forest Stages marked the latest chapter in Rutherford’s rallying adventure. The 22 year-old from Fionnphort was once again competing in his Honda Civic Type R, with fellow youngster Ross Hynd from Ayr co-driving. Craig and Ross emerged from the Galloway forests with a timecard that guaranteed them the SRC junior prize and put them in prime position for several other honours. Read More »

Rally2Raise crew Rachel Medich and Katherine Begg joined the likes of Colin McRae on the list of winners of the ‘man of the rally’ award on last weekend’s Jim Broll Merrick Stages. The girls finished second in class on the rally on what was only their second competitive event together and only Katherine’s second event ever. Read More »

Nervous anticipation was probably the best way to describe how Brick & Steel Ecosse Challenge competitors felt as they lined up on Saturday 1st September 2012 outside The Town Hall in The Square, Wigtown for the start of the 2012 Ian Broll Merrick Stages – the penultimate round of the 2012 Championship. The nervous anticipation was for a couple of reasons – first, it was going to be important to score good Championship points because 3 of the classes are going to be very close at the end of the year. And second was the prospect of 19 miles of fast and furious driving in the classic Glentrool forest – the second stage of the event and one of the longest in Scottish rallying. Read More »

Bentham’s David Wright had a disappointing Merrick Stages rally last weekend when damage caused by a puncture caused him to retire from the event.

Wright made a good start in his Kumho Tyres, Proflex, Drenth, York Brewery, Millers Oils and Grove Hill Garage-backed GPM Mitsubishi Evo 9, setting fourth fastest time despite having to get used to a slightly different pacenote system to that used on the events he normally contests. Read More »

Regulations are now available for the MEM Malton Forest Rally on the motor club’s website http://www.maltonforestrally.co.uk

The event will take place on Sunday, 4th November and will be based at  Dalby Forest Visitor Centre, near Pickering, North Yorkshire.  Three forest stages, each used twice, will be held in the forests of Langdale, Gale Rigg and Cropton to make up a total stage mileage of  40 miles. Read More »
