AaronMcClureInActionPR1Rising rally star Aaron McClure will kick off his assault on the 2013 NGK BRC Challenge this weekend with the season opener, Rally North Wales. McClure, 18 from Flookburgh in Cumbria will step up to the British Rally Championship feeder series in his newly acquired Ford Fiesta ST after a successful 2012 season piloting a Nissan Micra in the BTRDA & Rally First Championship. He will be guided through the stages by Tom Woodburn from Morecambe in Lancashire who joins him for the first time in 2013.

The event will be Aaron’s first foray into night time rallying but he is relishing the challenge at driving some of the stages made famous by World Champions such as Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

“This year will be a fantastic opportunity for me to gain experience in one of the best championships for young talent in the country. It will also allow me to compare my times against the some of the best rally drivers in the UK and Europe.  The BRC Challenge is all part of my career progression and it will be the perfect step towards my goal of competing in the British Rally Championship proper”.

Based in Welshpool, Rally North Wales will see BRC Challenge competitors leave the city centre start at around midday on Saturday 6th April to tackle over 50 stage miles in and around the infamous Dyfi and Gartheniog forest complex before returning to spray the champagne over the finish ramp at around 9pm that evening.

With a combined age of just 36, Aaron and Tom will be one of the youngest contenders for the BRC Challenge title, but both crew members have already had years of competitive experience behind them. Thanks to his performance in the Junior Rally Championship for 14-17 year olds, Aaron won “The Next Big Step” award which enabled him to progress into the BTRDA gravel championship last year. The BRC Challenge is a natural progression for the young duo and they have their sights firmly aimed at lifting the BRC Challenge title in 2013.
