AaronMcClureInCarCumbrian rally star Aaron McClure will finally kick off his assault on the 2013 NGK BRC Challenge (NGKBRCC) this weekend with newly introduced season opener, The Pirelli Richard Burns Foundation Rally. With the first round of the championship cancelled due to the treacherous snowy conditions in Wales, 18 year old McClure will make the short trip north to Carlisle to contest the event in his newly acquired Ford Fiesta ST.

Stepping up to the MSA British Rally Championship feeder series in 2013, McClure will tackle every round in the championship for the very first time and will be co-driven by Morecambe based Tom Woodburn. The pairing have one of the lowest combined age in the series, but what they lack in experience, is certainly made up by enthusiasm.

“I’m really excited about the year ahead and it will be crucial to get a good result on this event” said Aaron. “I have heard so much about the stages in the Kielder forest and how tough they can be, but hopefully we can get the measure of them from the word go.  It will be a very nervous few miles for us on the first stage whilst I find a comfortable pace which I can build on throughout the day”.

Having contested the BTRDA gravel series in 2012, Aaron’s experience of forestry competition will come to the fore as he tackles some of the most infamous stages in the country. Often feared by professional and amateur competitors alike, its undulating roads, blind crests and large ditches will ensure a finish will be a priority for the young duo.

The Pirelli Richard Burns Foundation Rally kicks off on Saturday 5th May from Carlisle city centre during mid morning. Competitors will head into the Kielder forest complex for 50 competitive miles during the day.  They will then return to Carlisle Racecourse to spray the champagne over the finish ramp at around 6pm that evening.
