The 55th MSA British Rally Championship (BRC) season should have been underway back on Rally North Wales in early April, but like March’s BRC Media Day, the weather had other ideas.

So this weekend (4/5 May) the Pirelli Richard Burns Foundation Rally temporarily resumes its position as the 2013 series opener, with the tension and excitement even more palpable than a month ago.

The reigning and triple BRC champ Keith Cronin has proved his point and has left the door wide open to a brand new champion to take the mantle – or has he? Most of the youngsters who battled it out last year are back with victory in mind, along with a raft of new faces too, but a certain Irishman has not ruled out an occasional appearance – how very Sébastien Loeb of him! ‘It’s full speed ahead for rally preparation because the event’s itinerary has changed this year to start on Wednesday and finish Saturday. The rally is over 400 kilometres this year and kicks off with a Super Special Stage here in the town on Wednesday night, before the first full stage Thursday morning. I think Saturday’ll be a tough day with 77.92 kilometres of rough Special Stages in total, but it ends on a high with the famous El Condor test as this year’s PowerStage. Read More »

Callum Black  586 Suzuki Swift21 year old Callum Black, from Brackley, goes into this weekend’s opening round of the MSA British Rally Championship with high hopes of a good result after finishing in a strong second in class on the recent Somerset Stages Rally.

The Pirelli Richard Burns Foundation Rally is based at Carlisle Racecourse with a ceremonial start in Carlisle Town Centre on Saturday morning (May 4th). Competitors will tackle some of the most iconic and demanding rally stages in Britain including stages in Northumberland’s Kielder Forest, often referred to in rallying as “Killer Kielder”, due to the frequently high attrition rate amongst competing cars.
