Kumho Hamsterley13Having finished a fighting second in round one of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C Rally Championship, Marty McCormack and co-driver Phil Clarke went one better last week (April 28) and achieved overall victory in the SG Petch Tour of Hamsterley by 45 seconds. As a result they now lead the series outright.

The well-attended event comprised seven testing and slippery stages in the forest of County Durham, each of which they negotiated without drama in their trusty MKII Escort, that was shod with Kumho R700 tyres. The same could not be said of first round winners Nick Elliott and Dave Price, who were caught out by the treacherous conditions, rolling their similar Ford into a ditch.

Dylan Davies and co-driver Llion Williams (MKI Escort) were another pairing to use their Kumho tyres to full advantage. They achieved their second consecutive class win and therefore continue to lead their category in the series. Said Kumho’s European Motorsport Manager Steve Thompson: “It was very rewarding to see our runners succeeding in conditions that caused problems for so many other teams. McCormack and Clarke have established themselves as the duo to beat and we wish them all the best for the next round.”
