BEN Jun13On the 7th July a four-man team of go-kart enthusiasts from the motor industry will pull on their race-suits and burn rubber as they race round the Alain Prost Circuit at Le Mans, France in aid of BEN, the automotive industry charity. This is the karting version of the world famous Le Mans 24 hour race.

Having raised over £10,000 for the charity in the 2012 race the team are hoping to find as many sponsors as possible to help them to beat this figure as they attempt to cover over 1,400 laps in the day/night race that is a true test of endurance for man and kart.

The team is captained by Mike Smith of Fleet Assist Ltd in Huntingdon who will share the two hour racing stints with Duncan Metcalfe of Alphabet, Alan Green of Leaseplan. By race day a large number of individual and business sponsors will have made their entry possible and worthwhile but the team are primarily indebted to Manheim Ltd for their financial support.

‘Given the success of last year’s race, and despite the pain we were in, we decided immediately to come back this year to better our finishing position and, more importantly, our fundraising total. Being part of the motor industry and knowing how important BEN is to thousands of our colleagues is all the incentive we need to reach our targets,’ said Mike Smith.

Event and Exhibitions Manager at BEN, Kelly Neal commented: ‘We run some amazing events every year and raise significant sums of money for our charity but what this team achieve in 24 hours is quite outstanding. On behalf of BEN I wish them luck on reaching both their targets.’

The team really do need as many sponsors as possible so if you work in the industry or are an avid fan of motorsport and good causes please make a donation by visiting
