Motorsport Italia is pleased to announce that the team will be joined at Rally Australia by Coffs Coast local driver Nathan Quinn who will compete on the tenth round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship in a MINI Countryman John Cooper Works.

A motor mechanic by trade, 27-year old Nathan Quinn is taking on Rally Australia for the third time, but it will be his first outing in a top specification WRC car. A big step for any young driver, Nathan is determined to make the most of the opportunity and has his sights set on a Top 10 finish on the event: “I expect to be cleaning the roads for most of Day One, but would like to be keeping up with the Top Ten so that on Days Two and Three, I can target a clear Top Ten finish. Ideally, I’d like to shoot for some Top Five stage times if the conditions are right, but first I have to get the right feeling with the MINI and build up my confidence. Whatever happens, it’s an incredible opportunity. I’m absolutely going to give it my best shot!”

With podium finishes under his belt in the 2010 Australian Rally Championship, scratches in the FIA Production car World Rally Championship in the last Rally Australia in 2011 and his first international victory last season at Rally Johor Malaysia, taking on the WRC stages of his home town in a top spec WRC car is a logical progression for Quinn. Known for it’s impressive chassis and sporting BMW’s latest evolution engine the 01C, the MINI should be the perfect match for the young Coff’s Coast talent.

Inspired by his family and their belief in him, Nathan wants to make his home crowd proud and use the event as a stepping stone for future opportunities in the rallying world: “As a regional Aussie kid I live for the satisfaction of achieving my goals and assisting others to achieve theirs. I hope to perform well in front of my home town and country and MINI. I want to get the best from myself, my equipment and the team. Ultimately, it’s my aim to generate more opportunities for the future to further my rallying.”

As Motorsport Italia prepares to head over to the other side of the world, Team Manager Bruno De Pianto is looking forward to working with Nathan: “Nathan’s enthusiasm for rally and his desire always to do the best he can is going to make him easy to work with. What more could a Team Manager ask for. Of course, he need to get the right feeling with the MINI and find a good rhythm on the opening stages of the event, but I think his target of a Top Ten finish is fair and at Motorsport Italia we’ll certainly do everything we can to help him achieve it!”
