almc13 (23)After missing the previous two rounds due to business commitments and those involving his MotoGP and British Superbike Championship teams, Langwathby driver Paul Bird will recommence his assault on the REIS Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship when he contests the Wexford Stages Rally in Ireland this forthcoming weekend.

The former ANCRO National Champion has already won two rounds of the championship this season, taking victories on the Manx National Rally and ALMC Stages earlier in the summer and once again he’ll be back in action driving the, Fuchs Titan, Rapid Solicitors and Kick Energy-backed, Pirelli-shod FBP Ford Focus WRC07.

Along with Welsh co-driver Aled Davies, despite missing three rounds this season, they are very much in the title hunt and know a victory this weekend will give them a major boost in lifting the coveted crown.

If indeed they can pull off their second Irish victory of the season, a third place on the season-ending Cheviot Rally on October 20th would suffice or a second place on the Patriot Stages later this month would mean a fourth place on the Cheviot (with its 1.25 points scoring coefficient) would ensure the title.

Paul Bird: “The results over the past couple of events have gone in our favour so we are still in the hunt for the title. I’ve never done this event before but I’ll be going all out to win it as that was the case on the ALMC Stages Rally earlier in the season and we managed to do OK on that one. I’m expecting the established crews to give me a run for my money but there’s no reason why we can’t pull off another result and put the pressure back onto them for the final two rounds.”
