Alex Parpottas / Alexander Kihurani Ford FiestaMSA British Rally Championship contender Alex Parpottas took a convincing third place in the hotly contested RallyTwo class on last weekend’s Rallye Sunseeker International.  Driving his Buzz Sweets Ford Fiesta R2, Parpottas headed to the Dorset based event in an attempt to chase down a podium position in the series and gain valuable seat time ahead of the Pirelli Star Driver Shootout which was held just two days after the event and offered a fully funded drive in the 2014 British rally Championship for the victor. Titan was approached in April 2012 by the Bloodhound project to design and manufacture a steering system for their land speed record vehicle, with which they aim to achieve 1,000 mph.

Titan manufacture steering racks for a wide range of vehicles but the load requirements, environmental conditions and space constraints meant that for Bloodhound, a more unconventional system was required.

“The steering requirements for the Bloodhound land speed record car are unusual as we have a 30:1 steering ratio and a steering lock of 5 degrees, which required us to have a bespoke steering rack,” commented Brian Coombs, Engineering Lead – Mechanical Design of Bloodhound. Read More »

Formula One Race Director Charlie Whiting is to be the guest speaker at the Motorsport Safety Fund’s annual Watkins Lecture, at Autosport International in January.

Charlie Whiting began his motorsport career preparing saloon and rally cars, before moving on to join Hesketh Racing in the late 1970s.

After Hesketh’s demise, he joined Bernie Ecclestone’s Brabham team, becoming chief mechanic during the years when Nelson Piquet took two Formula 1 World Championships, and then chief engineer. Read More »

Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy are the 2013 NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge champions, after a top class drive in the forests around Poole, secured the title they have led all season.

A second place finish was enough for the pair to be crowned, as their title rivals were unable to match their pace on the season finale Rallye Sunseeker Challenge.

Winning the event, Irish crew Dean Raftery and Aileen Kelly delivered another eye catching drive on their way to the top step of the podium. Read More »
