Who is the strongest rally driver in the world right now? The answer is simple : the one that is getting the best results: no “if”, “and” or “but”, and moreover no excuses. Certainly any criteria which translates results into numerical values is open to criticism , but the numbers and statistics normally photograph the real situation although they cannot cover all the possible variables which contribute to the results albeit marginal and often imponderable (climatic conditions, physical state of the driver, qualitative level of opposition).

The IRDA (International Rally Drivers Association ) to answer this question has established the World Rally Ranking which intends to be an impartial  ranking open to the smallest possible criticism also in relation to the rankings of other sports (tennis – golf – cycling etc etc ). Read More »


The MSA British Rally Championship will hold its annual open day for competitors at the Curborough Sprint Circuit on Friday 29th November.

Manufacturers and professional motorsport teams will be invited to attend, providing potential BRC competitors an opportunity to talk to them about options for 2014. The twisty all-asphalt track to the north of Birmingham will be made available for test drives.

BRC control tyre supplier Pirelli will also be at the event with a range of gravel and asphalt tyres and to help promote the Pirelli Star Driver scheme for next year. BRC officials and event representatives will be on hand to answer questions. Read More »

Wales Rally GB organisers, International Motor Sports Ltd (IMS), launched the ‘Road to Wales’ initiative in 2013 to give eight national rally drivers at the top of their game the chance to compete on Wales Rally GB during the finale of the 2013 World Rally Championship in north Wales between 14-17 November. Part two of the World Champions’ story: Volkswagen has won the manufacturers’ title in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with an outstanding one-two victory at the Rally Spain. That means all the WRC titles* for 2013 will go to the car maker from Wolfsburg. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ crown three weeks ago at the Rally France. The French duo went on to score an impressive win – their eighth this season – ahead of their team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) at the “Rally de España”. As a result, Volkswagen has an unassailable lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship with one round still to go this season. Winning three titles in its debut year with the Polo R WRC is Volkswagen’s greatest motorsport achievement to date.
