Samira and Chantal testingWith less than two days to go the Kenya Airways Rally Queens have declared themselves ready to rally! It has been a busy few days for Samira Khan and Chantal Young as the two women, who make up the only all ladies crew on this nine day rally, have been testing their new Porsche 911 on the roads around the Mombasa North Coast.

The girls were original scheduled to contest the 4500 kilometre long event in a Ford Escort but less than a month before the start, they were kindly offered the use of this Tuthill Porsche by Aslam and Arshad Khan of ALS. This means that, whilst Samira is a veteran of the arduous rally, having finished inside the top 30 overall in 2011, she will begin this year’s epic adventure with minimal mileage in the new car. Samira; we have managed about 150 kilometres of testing so far in the Porsche but as it is rear engine and has a lot more horsepower than our Escort it is very different to drive. The first few days of the rally will be a steep learning curve for us! Both Chantal and I have to say an enormous thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters – your support has made this dream become a reality!

The Kenya Airways Rally Queens are supported by ALS, Prince Lubricants, Kenauto, Highlands Water, Travellers Beach Resort and Dalbit Petroleum as they set off to tackle the 2013 East African Classic Safari Rally. This world famous event sees the 60 competing crews flagged off from the Sarova Whitesands Hotel on Thursday 21 November. The surviving crews will return to the hotel some nine days and 4 500 kilometres later, having visited far flung locations in Kenya and Tanzania.
