Apart from losing another exhaust and having intercom problems the Kenya Airways Rally Queens have pronounced their day in the Porsche 911 as perfect! This, the third day of the 2013 East African Safari Classic Rally, saw the girls tackle over 300 kilometres of rallying split into three sections. This competitive mileage is more than the pairing have contested in the National Championship all year long!

The opening section saw the demise of 2011 winner, former World Rally Champion, and fellow Porsche driver Bjorn Waldegaard, when he crashed out early on. No such dramas for Samira and Chantal, although the girls did lose the second exhaust on their car! The intercom then failed in the second section and Chantal had to resort to hand gestures for the rest of the day. Despite these small headaches the Rally Queens have climbed eight positions up the leaderboard since yesterday!

Samira; the more I drive the Porsche the more confident I’m getting. She really is a tough car as we hit a few blind ditches today and she just carried on! I’m trying to find a balance between a comfortable speed and not being too rough on the car. I don’t have the experience or the budget of the other Porsche drivers but I think I have a bigger smile than all of them!

Day four sees the crews head back to Kenya. Four sections, totaling 332 kilometres, lie ahead before the competitors arrive in Amboseli National Park tomorrow evening. By then the crews will have tackled over a thousand competitive kilometres since they set off from Mombasa on Thursday.

The Kenya Airways Rally Queens are supported by ALS, Prince Lubricants, Kenauto, Highlands Water, Travellers Beach Resort and Dalbit Petroleum as they tackle the 2013 East African Classic Safari Rally. This world famous event sees the 60 competing crews flagged off from the Sarova Whitesands Hotel on Thursday 21 November. The surviving crews will return to the hotel some nine days and 4 500 kilometres later, having visited far flung locations in Kenya and Tanzania.
