AaronMClure_inaction219 year old Aaron McClure from Flookburgh will kick off his 2014 motorsport campaign with next weekend’s Pirelli Carlisle R B Foundation Rally, the opening round of years MSA British Rally Championship. Driving his new-for-2014 Ford Fiesta R2, McClure has his sights firmly set on the BRC2 category title as well as the coveted Pirelli Star Driver nominations which are awarded to a select number of competitors showing outstanding talent throughout the season’s 6 events.  This year McClure will be backed by Wetherby based flooring specialists Allfloors Express who have supported his motorsport activities for many years and has now become title sponsor for his British Championship assault.

A newcomer to the squad is the experienced 19 year old Elliott Edmondson from Milton Keynes who will co-drive alongside McClure and brings a wealth of knowledge to the team after sitting with many high profile drivers from an early age.  Together, the young pairing will compete alongside some of the UK’s biggest talents in rallying in a bid to take class honours on the Carlisle based event.

“The Pirelli (Carlisle RB Foundation Rally) has been a long time coming and it’s felt like an age since we did some proper competitive mileage in the car; I’ve been looking forward to this for months” says McClure. “But we have had a few test sessions during the winter and I really can’t wait to get going in the championship. This is the biggest challenge of my career so far but I really feel that I`m ready to step up to the mark and fight for the BRC 2 win.”

McClure has tackled the season opener previously in 2013 whilst contesting the NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge, so is no stranger to the notorious roads which wind their way through the Kielder forest complex. Their ditch lined gravel tracks have claimed many top-line drivers in the past, so a mature head will be required from the word “go”.  “There are much more experienced competitors in the series than me so it will be a huge learning curve to tackle these forests in the more powerful R2 Fiesta compared to last year’s car” he says. “But we just have to look ahead as much as possible and try to improve our pace throughout the event, whilst keeping it in the middle of the road as much as possible”.

The Pirelli Carlisle R B Foundation Rally takes place across the weekend of 3rd and 4th May and is based at the Brunton Park football ground in Carlisle with the 85 miles of competitive action taking place in the Kielder forest complex. A lunchtime finish celebration on Sunday will greet the remaining crews. Aaron is supported in 2014 by Allfloors Express, Motorsport Catering, and the Next Big Step.
