PhilHallPR2_14British Rally co-driver Phil Hall will head Stateside this week to sit alongside Rally America contender Chris Duplessis in a Ford Fiesta. The 25 year old Royal Air Force employee has been recruited by the ex WRC Academy pilot to assist in his class B ‘overall’ title chase on the event.  Having spent much of the year contesting various events across the UK, this will mark Hall’s first event overseas as he contests the New England Forest Rally which takes place in the gravel stages surrounding Newry, Maine.

Hall has managed to squeeze the trip into his hectic co-driving schedule and will tackle the sixth round of the popular Rally America series, featuring names such as Travis Pastrana and Ken Block and Antoine L’Estage. Briton David Higgins currently leads the standings. It was thanks to the eagle eyed Rally America leader that Hall was alerted to the fact that Duplessis was seeking a co-driver for the event.  Having made plans to attend the event on a fact finding mission anyway, Hall hastily re-arranged flights and paperwork and heads to America this week to acclimatise ahead of the July 18-19 event.

“Ive had a busy few months in the co-driver’s seat but I wasn’t expecting this” explains Hall. “I’d spoken to David (Higgins) a few times about coming over to the States to experience the Rally America series. It was certainly a shock when he messaged me saying Chris Duplessis might be looking for a co-driver and to get in touch. I called him up and four days later I was flying out to meet him”.

The ambitious Nottingham based Hall has always looked to compete overseas and broaden his experience with other drivers in varying terrain.  “This will certainly be a rallying adventure like no other” he says.  “It’s been a dream of mine to compete in the Rally America series for some time now but never thought I’d get an offer to head there this soon.  Chris is clearly a capable driver and has competed across the world so this is a fantastic opportunity which will undoubtedly be a learning experience. The team sound fantastic and they have been very accommodating; I simply cannot wait to get started”.

The New England Forest Rally is a two day event and will take competitors over thirteen stages and 100 competitive stage miles in the shallow yet wide forest logging roads in Newry, Maine – Errol, New Hampshire. The Rally America series is the most popular rally championship in the USA and often attracts over 50 entries on every round.
