Last year’s winner Mark McCulloch heads an impressive line-up of more than 60 crews for Saturday’s Solway Coast Rally, held at the military ranges at Dundrennan,  near Kirkcudbright.

The Newton Stewart driver, who comes off the back of a top-fifteen finish on the Speyside Stages at the weekend, will face strong competition from, among others, David Hardie – co-driven by Mark’s dad John – and Ian Paterson, who has been runner-up for the past two years.

Others targeting a strong finish include Alistair Inglis, one of the country’s leading exponents of tarmac rallying; 2007 Scottish champions Gary and Gordon Adam; and Ayrshire’s Andrew Gallacher, who was in action on Speyside in the Group N category. Read More »

tyneside14 (147)Just days after returning from a Rally America class win with Chris Duplessis on the New England Forest Rally in the USA, British rally co-driver Phil Hall stayed slightly closer to home as he contested last weekend’s Tyneside Stages Rally in Northumberland. Rising junior rally star Sam Bilham will step outside of his regular BTRDA Rally championship season plans this weekend as he heads to Scotland to contest the Solway Coast Rally. Based on the Military Ranges in Dundrennan, near Kirkcudbright, Bilham will be returning to asphalt for the first time in 2014 in a bid to re-ignite his chances of a Formula1000 Rally championship podium in the Seniors category.

It’s been five years since Shropshire based rally driver Henri Grehan was last behind the wheel of a rally car but will make his competitive comeback on the Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally on 30th August. Driving his Ford Escort Mk2 on the BTRDA Rally Championship qualifier, Grehan will return to the forests to contest his home rally after taking a sabbatical from the sport in 2009.

Like many passions, rallying never strayed far from Grehan’s mind and he had been contemplating a comeback for several years, often attending the annual Woodpecker Rally to keep a watchful eye on old rivals and any new hotshots’ progress. It wasn’t long before he could no longer resist and began planning a comeback on next month’s Ludlow based event. “I’ve been away far too long” says Grehan.  “I’m not even sure if what the pace will be like and it will certainly take a few stages to get back into the swing of things. I`ve heard that Bringewood is the first stage so that will wake us up in the morning!” Read More »
