The 2014 MSA British Rally Championship will conclude at this weekend’s Rally Isle of Man, powered by Microgaming, but it will be an event and a season of very mixed emotion for the eventual champions and of all those involved in the sport.

This classic rally will have a real impact on the results of the season-long battle, as it carries a hefty bonus, the event having two points-scoring opportunities. 20 points are available from the first eleven stages, with 30 points on offer from the remaining thirteen stages. Coupled with a season total calculated from the best five of six available scores, it is impossible to speculate on a winner ahead of the 166 mile rally and any one of five crews could mathematically still take the title. Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship leader Colin Turkington extended his advantage at the top of the standings with a double victory at Rockingham; before Rob Austin went on to score a hugely popular win in the final race.

Ambitious British Rally co-driver Phil Hall will take the short ferry trip across the Irish Sea this week to tackle the famous Rally Isle of Man alongside fellow RAF Rally Championship contender Phil Bruce. The Royal Air Force duo will tackle the event in a rapid Peugeot 206 and are seeded at 61, which has attracted entries from around the world. After a disappointing non-start in Belgium last weekend due to a mechanical issue with the Georgia Sheils Abarth 500, Hall is looking forward to returning to the co-driver’s seat in one of the toughest event in the British Rally calendar.   Read More »

Dean Raftery / Aileen Kelly Ford FiestaGalway rally ace Dean Raftery will head across the Irish Sea this week to contest the final round of the MSA British Rally Championship, Rally Isle of Man. Offering two points scoring opportunities, the fondly named “Manx” will be the most important event in the Irishman’s rallying career as he aims to secure the RallyTwo, FiestaSport Trophy and BRC2 championship honours.  With three long days of closed public road rallying ahead, Raftery and regular co-driver Aileen Kelly need to master the unique roads around the small island from the very first stage if they are to take the silverware back to Galway.
