PBird_Woodpecker2Following on from winning the last two rounds of the 2014 REIS BTRDA Rally Series, Cumbrian rally driver Paul Bird plans to continue his winning ways into this weekend’s Trackrod Forest Stages Rally which forms the penultimate round.

The British Superbike and MotoGP team boss from Langwathby near Penrith is well placed in the standings after a second place on the opening Wyedean Rally followed by a win on his local Malcolm Wilson Rally for a record-equalling fourth time, and arrives in Yorkshire determined to chase honours.

Along with Welsh co-driver Aled Davies in the Rubis Petroleum, Cockspur Rum, Fuchs Titan Race and Mac Tools-backed Ford Focus WRC07, they know a fourth victory of the season will do their title hopes a power of good going into the final round in Wales next month

The 2005 National Champion has made his intentions clear with an extended test session over two days this week and has reported a number of improvements to the Dom Buckley Motorsport-prepared car which will suit the fast and flowing stages of the Yorkshire Moors.

Paul Bird: “I’m going to the Trackrod Rally with the sole intention of winning and if we do, we’ll be in a brilliant position to take the championship on the Cambrian. The plan is to go for it from the start and let the others play catch up. That’s what I’ve done on all the events I’ve won this year so I don’t see a need to change my style. I’ve never been so motivated coming into a rally for years so let’s get this on!”

The event is part of Trackrod Rally Yorkshire and the BTRDA events gets underway from Pickering Showground at 08.31 on Saturday (27th) September followed by five stages in Langdale, Gale Rigg, Cropton, Staindale and Dalby before the finish in Pickering at around 15.25.
