malton14 (7)Our first visit to the Malton Forest Rally but on familiar stages to us. A relatively small took the stages but there was good variety too. After just missing out on the win in 2013 Stephen Petch & Michael Wilkinson (Fiesta R5+) took victory by 8 seconds, after setting the fastest or joint fastest stage time on 5 of the 6 stages. Charlie Payne & Andrew Roughead (Fiesta) briefly led after setting the fastest time on the 3rd stage, but 2nd overall was not a bad return on a quiet rallying year. Competing the podium, almost a minute back, were Peter Stephenson & Ian Windress (Focus WRC) who had been consistently setting 3rd & 4th fastest stage times all event.

In the historic section Matt Edwards & Paul Morris (Escort MkII) took a comfortable win, going fastest on 5 of the 6 stages. On only the 2nd event for the RSD Fiat 131 Abarth, Julian Reynolds & Patrick Walsh took the runner up spot, happy to get a finish but still looking for more pace from the car. They were only 3 seconds ahead of Tim Mason &  Graham Wild (Porsche 911) who in turn only beat Charlie Taylor & Ian Jackson (Escort MkII) by a single second. 2nd to 4th had been in that order going in to the final stage with Mason and Taylor setting the same time a second faster than Reynolds, so it had been a close run thing.
