Mille Miglia, the very words roll off the tongue and bring visions of sleek sports cars driven at fantastic speeds through small villages and along country roads, to the delight of all who gather to watch.

Crowds – seemingly oblivious of any danger – watching the true heirs of the great city-to-city races which were run at the beginning of the 20th Century. It’s estimated that over five million men, women and children lined the route every year the race was run, come rain or shine.

Brescia was considered the birthplace of Italian motorsport and inhabitants were shocked when the Italian Grand Prix was ‘stolen away’ and moved to Monza in 1922.

Their response was the launch one of the greatest road races ever; so the Mille Miglia was born, running from 1927 until 1957, when the race was abandoned on the grounds of safety. Major manufacturers would enter works cars employing the world’s top drivers in a bid to win the race.

“The Mille Miglia created our cars and the Italian automobile industry.” Enzo Ferrari.

Entry still favours cars which entered or completed registration for one of the original races.

In 1977, the race was resurrected and rapidly re-established as a world-leading motorsport event and become a pinnacle of its type for serious collectors and competitors to participate in.
