Tour Britannia Ireland15Prospective competitors for the Irish edition of Tour Britannia can get a taste of the closed road special stages to be run in Ireland in May through a video now loaded to the event website.

During a recent route recce for the 13-15 May event, in-car footage was filmed of the stages in the Sally Gap area of the Wicklow Mountains and an edit of the film is now on-line at:

‘Tour Ireland’ will start and finish in North Wales, and cross the Irish Sea for at least four closed-road stages in Ireland during the classic race and rally tour. The video clip gives a taste of what is in store when crews make the short trip south from the Dun Laoghaire ferry port to the Wicklow Mountains.

Event promoter Alec Poole said: “The roads really remind me of the Targa Florio, although the ambient temperature is slightly different! The feel of the roads, the scenery and the undulations have the feel of the mountain sections of the Targa or maybe the old Mugello road circuit.” Poole has extensive experience of the Irish stages, having competed over them in his formative years.

The stages run on two-lane roads that are free from pot holes and feature flowing corners with excellent forward visibility. There are few, if any, tricky brows and the stages have been chosen to appeal to crews that have limited experience of competing on such roads. One or two chicanes will be added to slow the cars at relevant points and the plan is to run both stages in either direction with a short service halt in between.

To maintain the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie for which the event is renowned, entries will be limited and regulations and entry forms are now available from the event website: http://www.tourbritannia.com
