Dauphine 15 (274)It was now our 3rd Dauphiné and what an absolute cracker it proved to be. Stage 1 saw an audacious move by Peter Kennaugh (Sky) in the final few kilometres leap from the peleton to take victory and the maillot jaune. He held on to this after stage 2 which came down to a sprint, won by Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis). Next up was the team time trial and Rohan Dennis (BMC) took over the yellow jersey after a dominant with in the team time trial. Bouhanni took stage win number 2, on stage 4, as Dennis kept yellow.

Romain Bardet (AG2R) descended like a man possessed on stage 5 to take the stage victory whilst Tejay van Garderen (BMC) took over the yellow jersey from his team mate. Stage 6 looked routine but a high quality breakaway saw Team Sky miss out as they focused too much on van Garderen putting Chris Froome on the back foot. Rui Costa (Lampre) won the stage but Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) was now the man in yellow. The Queen stage followed and Team Sky attacked throughout leaving Froome to make the decisive move on the final two climbs to take the stage victory ahead of van Garderen, who in turn regained the yellow jersey from Nibali who dropped all but out of contention.

The final stage was a showdown between Froome and van Garderen and BMC matched Sky throughout a tricky final stage until the final climb of the day where Froome launched an attack which saw him do enough to snatch victory from van Garderen by just 10 seconds. Rui Costa rode and inspired stage to take 3rd overall a further 66 seconds behind.

The other category winners were pretty much decided before the final stage as Bouhanni took the green jersey aka the sprinters jersey, whilst a superb effort on the opening pair of stages was enough for Daniel Teklehaimanot (MTN-Qhubeka) to take the polka dot jersey or King of the Mountains. The white jersey went to Simon Yates (Orica Greenedge) as the best young rider on the race and the team award went to Movistar for a good all round performance across the 8 stages.
