AaronMcClurePR09_15_CSRCumbrian rally ace Aaron McClure ended his hopes of a third podium in a row on Saturday’s (13th June) Carlisle Stages when he rolled his Allfloors Express – YOKOHMA backed Mitsubishi E9 into retirement on the penultimate stage of the event.  After proving his early season pace was no fluke, the 20 year old 2300 Club John Easson Award winner from Flookburgh was lying a creditable eighth overall and second in the hotly contested N4 class when he left the road on a right hand bend.  Despite the efforts of nearby spectators, the car was stuck in the Kielder forest undergrowth and would go no further. A big step forward in the race for the World Championship: Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and Volkswagen made a big point with victory at the Rally Italy. Ogier and Ingrassia’s third win in a row on Sardinia allowed Volkswagen to extend significantly its leads in the Drivers’, Co-Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships. After almost half the season in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Ogier/Ingrassia are now 66 points clear of their closest rivals, while Volkswagen holds a 65-point lead. Read More »

Patrick Dempsey has celebrated his greatest success as a race driver with Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At the wheel of the 470 hp 911 RSR campaigned by Dempsey Proton Racing, the American actor (“Grey’s Anatomy”) crossed the finish line in second in the GTE-Am class at the 83rd edition of the long distance classic in France in front of 260,000 spectators. His teammates at his third Le Mans mission with Porsche were Porsche works driver Patrick Long (USA) and Marco Seefried (Austria), which whom he contests the full 2015 Sports Car World Endurance Championship for the first time.

WWRS15 Carlisle APhil Burton and Mal Capstick won again in the fifth round of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship, Saturday’s DMACK Carlisle Stages (13 June). They were also third overall two-wheel drive car on the rally.

Burton’s crew had to resolve some rear suspension issues at second service after the rough section in Chamot Hill. He then attacked in the final 14-miler in Kershope before catching the dust of another car but still arrived back at the finish as the leading R.A.C. finisher once more in his Open Category Ford Escort Mk2. “We caught Brian Bell’s Focus WRC in the last stage and did eight miles in his dust,” said Burton.
