Revolution Series R1 (122)Back to cycling once more and early season indoors action as the riders descended on the recently built Derby velodrome, to kick off the 2015/6 Revolution Series. This one had a bit more to offer than usual though as in the build-up to the Rio Olympics this was an early opportunity to start building up valuable UCI qualification points and it showed. The highlight was always set to be the madison which would see Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish reunited for the event they last rode together, on their way to the 2008 World Championship. They did not fail to deliver!

A popular win was netted on the penultimate sprint which allowed the pairing to showboat for the last 20 laps and make some interesting attacks. There were other races too with the Keirin finals won by Jason Kenny and Katy Marchant for Team GB in the Men’s and Women’s races respectively. There was also the conclusion of the omnium where Laura Trott was in a tight battle with Jolien D’Hoore, of Belgium, with Trott winning by 3 points. In the Men’s omnium Ed Clancy showed his former omnium World Champion class by building up a big lead of 28 points going in to the points race. Mark Cavendish tried to bridge the gap and looked to steal a march whenever possible but Clancy marked him well and took the victory. All in all an excellent day of cycling in a new World class venue for the Midlands.
